Independent Glyphosate Testing of Auckland Playgrounds

Goal

Playgrounds are meant to be safe places for children.

Recent testing in the UK found glyphosate residues in children’s playgrounds — everywhere except councils that had already stopped using the chemical.

In New Zealand, glyphosate is routinely used in parks and playgrounds, yet there is very little independent testing to show what remains where children play.

That’s what we want to examine.

What We’re Doing

We’re planning independent screening tests for the presence of glyphosate in 20 Auckland playgrounds.

This initial phase will determine whether glyphosate is detectable at all — not how much is present.

If glyphosate is not detected, that is valuable information.
If glyphosate is detected, we will then consider what further testing or action is appropriate.

No assumptions. No predetermined outcomes.

Funding Goal

Target: $900

This covers the cost of glyphosate screening test kits for the initial presence testing.

A live total will show how much has been raised and what’s still needed.

What Happens Next

If glyphosate is detected, possible next steps may include:

  • further, more detailed testing

  • requesting or encouraging council-led monitoring

  • publishing results to inform public discussion

Any next steps will be considered carefully and transparently.

Transparency

If the funding target is reached, testing will proceed as planned across multiple Auckland playgrounds, and results will be published publicly.

If the target is not reached, testing will still go ahead but on a reduced scale, with fewer playgrounds included in the initial phase.

Either way, any results obtained will be shared openly.

Thank You

Thank you for supporting independent, evidence-led inquiry.

When chemicals are used where children play, confidence should be earned — not assumed.
