Global Mission Development Fund

The Global Mission Development Fund provides an efficient way to raise funds in support of Global Mission partners, mission points, and global Church of the Brethren denominations program priorities. Programs being funded need to align with Mission and Ministry Board goals for global ministries. Global Mission is currently seeking support for this fund through The Vine and Fig Tree Initiative.

The Vine and Fig Tree Initiative is a strategic effort to strengthen the global Church of the Brethren by moving toward full financial sustainability. Building on the 2018 Annual Conference mandate to nurture a global communion that is self-propagating, self-governing, and self-financing, the initiative focuses on the final step: empowering global churches to fund their own ministries. Rooted in a commitment to equity and human dignity, this work recognizes that dependency can diminish both giver and receiver. Instead, it calls the church into relationships of mutuality and interdependence, where gifts flow in all directions and mission is understood as coming from everywhere to everyone.

Inspired by the vision of Micah 4:4—where each person sits securely under their own vine and fig tree—the initiative promotes peace, stability, and sufficient provision for all. Through community-based development strategies, global churches are supported in creating sustainable income-generation plans tailored to their local contexts, using their own expertise and resources. Initial investments are provided through the Global Food Initiative and the Global Mission Development Fund, with a “start small, scale up” approach guiding progress over five years toward financial independence. Partners are invited to join this transformative work by contributing start-up capital, helping global churches achieve long-term sustainability and thrive in their God-given mission.
