Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity that will take place on Tuesday, November 30th, 2021. It's a day when everyone comes together to give back in all forms: acts of kindness, gifts of voice, time, talent or treasure. We continue to progress in the support and development of our state-of the-art labs and novel therapy programs. (see research update )The brain and spinal tumors that those affected by NF2 develop can cause deafness, blindness, paralysis and even death due to the pressure exerted their brains. PLEASE HELP US SUPPORT NF2 FAMIILES by donating on Giving Tuesday. Our goal is to raise $80,000 and 100% of your donations will go directly to fund Dr. Chernoff's lab.
This proposal from Dr. Chernoff aims to use Nobel Prize winning technology CRISPRCrisp/Cas9-based gene editing to repair Schwann cells bearing three distinct types mutations (variants) commonly found in NF2 patients: large deletion, small deletion, point mutation. The lab will then compare the ability of the mutant and repaired Schwann cells to transmit nerve signals normally and for their ability to divide and grow, with the expectation that repair of the mutations will also normalize the behavior of these cells.
On Giving Tuesday, we will raise funds to start this program, and 100% of your donations will go to this project, not used for any of the nonprofit operational costs!
