Lynnhaven Academy was opened six years ago by a man with a vision to create a school for students who would thrive in a small learning environment. These were not your ordinary students. Though they were very bright and college bound after high school, traditional school didn’t allow for them to flourish due to the many distractions and impersonal nature of a large school. The founder experienced this first hand as a teacher and principal so he set out to do something about it. He wanted to create a school where teachers could make true and authentic connections with students and parents and deliver content with the students strengths and weaknesses in mind. The problem was, he didn’t have the start up money to open a school. Instead, in 2012, he took a leap of faith.
The school’s first location was in the basement of an insurance company with one student. Lynnhaven has now grown to over 40 students and seven full-time faculty and staff in five years. A big dream has impacted students in a big way! Graduates have gone on to the colleges of their choice. Students have learned how to see education as exciting and valuable. Teachers have been given the flexibility to dig deeper and make connections across subjects. Lynnhaven has survived and grown because of sacrifice, dedication and hard work and parents seeing their student thrive!
If you’ve not guessed by now, it costs money to teach students, create curriculum, compensate faculty and staff, and to simply operate. The founder, board, parents, teachers, and students want a viable school that’ll be there for over 100 years. They cannot do it without your donations. Help Lynnhaven continue the momentum from Giving Tuesday, to finish off 2018 meeting it's Annual Giving Goal.
