Help us to make roads safer for everyone
Too many lives continue to be lost or forever changed on Ontario's roads. Imagine a future where every journey on two wheels is not just a trip but safe and enjoyable for all ages.
Through impactful public education campaigns, our Bicycle Friendly Communities program for municipalities that rewards progress and provides practical feedback and tools for safer streets, and relentless advocacy campaigns, the Share the Road Cycling Coalition continues to work towards a future where there is respect between all road users, and cycling is a source of joy, freedom, and choice.
Over the past 18 years, we have successfully made the case for legislative changes in including the 1metre safe passing law, Canada's first Vulnerable Road User legislation in 2017, #CycleON: Ontario's Cycling Strategy in 2013, and for more than $125 million in provincial cycling infrastructure funding for municipalities.
This past spring, we launched an advertising campaign in support of Ontario’s “One Metre Safe Passing” law with OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique.
More recently, we shared with the provincial government our significant concerns about Bill 212, and Bill 60, sharing data that shows that bike lanes are important now more than ever to save lives, enhance livability, and reduce congestion.
Our organization sponsors and supports the Queen’s Park All Party Cycling Caucus comprised of Members of Provincial Parliament. This Caucus a non-partisan forum to share research, information and strategies for legislative change and investment in cycling infrastructure and facilities like bike parking, as well as safety and awareness campaigns that encourage cycling. We’re proud of these MPPs who are working to change the narrative, and advocate for legislative change.
Very soon we’ll be announcing details on our work to create a new cycling skills education program for our province – Bikeability for Ontario. Inspired by the Bikeability program in the UK, and in partnership with our colleagues there, we are working to create the first all-ages cycling education program in decades. The UK’s Bikeability program has educated 5 million children since 2007 and is one of the best platforms in the world. This vital work is under way – stay tuned for progress announcements soon!
These programs, partnerships and campaigns require resources – and we need your support to continue this work on behalf of cyclists across the province. Especially now.
Your donation makes a direct impact, helping us to mobilize communities across Ontario to ensure that cyclists' voices are heard in our fight to change the narrative provincially, make meaningful progress at the municipal level and that build effective education and awareness campaigns, sharing the message about the benefits and importance of cycling.
You can make an impact in your community and at the provincial level. Every dollar counts - make a donation today and receive a charitable tax receipt for amounts over $20.
Together, we can turn our vision into reality - by making Ontario's roads safer for everyone.
