General Fund

Donations which have no designation will go into our general fund.  These funds cover the additional costs which other campaigns may have underestimated, pay for pop-up requests, and help to cover administrative costs.  Donating into the general fund allows our organization to use the funds in a more flexible format since we allocate all other designated funds to be used for the purpose the donor intended.

How are the general funds used?

Fill the gap:  Anytime we have a deadline for a campaign, we anticipate we will be over or under in donations received.  The general fund can help to bridge the gap when we are short funds which require a deadline in order to make the event happen.  

Pop-up requests:  Sometimes we get a pop-up request for a donation which we have not run a campaign nor do we  have the funds set aside for the particular request.  In these cases, we bring the request to our Board of Directors to decide whether or not we can support the request.  If we determine the request meets the requirements and is in line with our goals as a nonprofit, we can approve the request using money from the general fund.

Administrative costs:  In 2020 it is our goal to hire two staff in a part time capacity.  Money from our general fund will help to cover any cost which is not covered by a grant.  We will also use the funds to purchase software and office supplies, computer equipment, and support other administrative expenses.
