The Betsey Fund was established in memory of a FuRRR founding kitty who passed away in 2021. FuRRR started when our founder wanted to help at-risk cats normally euthanized in shelters because of medical or behavioral issues. Betsey was one of those five founding cats. She came to FuRRR with neurological issues and was partially blind, but Betsey was a fighter and a sweet, wonderful cat. She later developed Stomatitis and had to have all her teeth removed; she had laser therapy for the pain; through it all, Betsey was her spunky, unique self.
Each year, FuRRR takes in hundreds of cats, many of whom require additional medical care and support that would otherwise be outside the scope of routine medical care provided in our rescue. Adoption fees like standard vetting don’t cover this additional medical care and normally come at a high cost.
Veterinary care covered by The Betsey Fund:
- Diagnostic testing (x-rays, ultrasounds, blood panels)
- Dental cleaning and teeth extractions
- Entropian surgery (corrects a condition affecting the eyelids)
- Enucleation (removal of badly damaged eyes)
- Limb amputation
- Treatment for FIP (feline infection peritonitis)
We believe every cat in our care deserves immediate medical attention, regardless of cost. As you can imagine, the veterinary bills add up quickly, and forecasting these expenses is difficult.
Donations to The Betsey Fund are always needed to provide a chance at life for our most vulnerable cats.
