Neptune's Pirates will be ready to directly confront Hvalur hf’s whaling ships on OPERATION ICE STORM. The CPWF flagship, the M/Y John Paul DeJoria, will set sail to the waters off Iceland this summer, and will be manned by brave and committed volunteers prepared to risk their lives and liberty to safeguard the existence of Fin whales. Together we will put an end to whaling in Iceland.
The John Paul DeJoria has been undergoing maintenance to the port side of the hull after damage sustained during Operation Ocean Killers, as well as upgrades to main engine control systems and general preparations for our upcoming Iceland Campaign to safety systems and deck machinery.
In just three months from now, we will be departing to intercept the Icelandic whalers. We intend to block their operations to prevent the slaughter of endangered Fin whales. With your help I am confident that we will be able to shut down their operations. -Captain Paul Watson
Sea Shepherd France has worked long and hard for years to stop the killing of dolphins by the French trawling fleet. We have been threatened by fishermen and delayed by politicians, but finally the courts have ruled that the law is the law and it is illegal to kill dolphins under French and EU laws. The temporary ban is a small step, but a step in the right direction.

"Operation Ocean Killers has intercepted numerous Super Trawlers in the English Channel. The objective is to bring the destruction of these huge killing machines to the attention of the European media, public and government. We have documented conclusive evidence of Dutch owned Super Trawlers fishing inside French and British territorial waters (11 miles offshore) contradicting government statements that the vessels never fish inside national waters. Operation Ocean Killers with the ships John Paul DeJoria and Walrus will return in January to pursue the Super Trawlers outside of the 200 economic exclusion Zone where we can more aggressively intervene." -Captain Paul Watson
It’s been an intense two months. First to Iceland where upon arrival, the Icelandic government imposed a temporary ban on whaling. They did the same back in 2019 when we sent a boat to Iceland, and they did it back in 2007 when we had done same. It seems that all we need to do is show up. We did not have the Faroe Islands on the agenda for this summer, but with the Icelandic whaling shut down and being in the neighborhood, we arrived in the Faroes on July 7th, responded to Grind (whale killing) on the 9th and intervened to allow a pod of whales to escape on the 19th. This resulted in our being charged by the Danish Court with violating Faroese territorial waters after an unsuccessful high speed pursuit by the Faroese Coast Guard for which we were tried in absentia, found guilty and fined $23,000 which we are now appealing. It’s safe to say that we stirred up some controversy and made international news in our on-going campaign to end the horror of the Faorese Grindadrap (translation: the murder of whales). Thank you for helping the Captain Paul Watson Foundation raise funds to keep our ships going and stay tuned for our next campaign!
The below passage is from the artist onboard the John Paul DeJoria. Simone is currently designing individual artistic pieces for the Chart Your Course Fundraiser. If you fundraise $1,000 you may receive one of these unique Operation Paiakan nautical charts. Once you've reached $1k, send an email to [email protected] and let us know which animal you'd like Simone to draw for you. If you fundraise $2,000, you will receive a chart AND have your name engraved on a plaque inside the wheelhouse of the flagship, the John Paul DeJoria.
"The Beauty of nature is all around us.
In such a short period of time on board we’ve been surrounded by fin whales, orca, seals and much more. The ocean is a big inspiration for my artworks and here on board I get to see nature in it's purest form. One of the most beautiful things is to share these encounters with amazing crew, to enjoy the moment, life."
From Mia Music on the transit to Iceland onboard the John Paul DeJoria for Operation Paiakan - "We are in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, just saw a pod of orcas! There has been a lot of wildlife so far - sunfish, fin whales, leatherback turtles."
"The Captain Paul Watson Foundation campaign to protect and defend endangered Fin whales in the waters between Iceland and Greenland is set to begin when the Icelandic whaling season opens on June 7th. I will be boarding the John Paul DeJoria on June 2nd to depart for the North Atlantic. Operation Paiakan is about to begin."
"It's been a busy week preparing the ship for departure, the crane is installed and tested, work continues to pass safety survey and the weather is proving more favorable for painting on deck. Thanks for all the support to help keep the mission going!"
We received a question about signing up with Donorbox to crowdfund for the CPWF. When you sign up to fundraise, you want to sign up "as an individual". Do not sign up "as an org"! The sign up process is free and never asks you to link up your bank accounts or PayPal. If you are ever asked to link any sort of account, then you accidentally signed up "as an org". You would need to cancel that account and start over "as an individual". If you run into any problems, please reach out to us. Thank you again for becoming a Force Multiplier for the Captain Paul Watson Foundation. We hope to see you all Sunday at 2pm (EST) for a free virtual talk followed by a Q&A with Captain Paul Watson and Captain Locky MacLean. https://donorbox.org/events/427629
