Support MATIO | Kids Kicking Cancer Community!

Hello! My name is Courtney Brown and I'm a candidate for earning my Certified 1st Degree Black Belt this fall (2026) through Mile High Karate in Thornton, Colorado. As part of my requirements for earning my black belt, I am doing a community service project to raise money to support MATIO | Kids Kicking Cancer. 

MATIO stands for "Martial Arts Therapy. Inside & Out." It is a program that helps pediatric patients utilize martial arts mindset, breathing, and empowerment to help them cope with their medical journey.

As a Certified Child Life Specialist who has specialized in oncology for the past 18 years, and as a soon-to-be certified black belt, the mission of MATIO | Kids Kicking Cancer encompasses my passions.

During Childhood Cancer Awareness month (September), I am hosting a fundraising event at Warrior Challenge Arena in Broomfield, CO. This event will be on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 4:00-6:00p. All funds raised at this event will go directly to MATIO | Kids Kicking Cancer. Let's join together as a community to have a "kicking good time" for a good cause and a great program. Hope to see you there!
