Our vision is a UK free from poverty. We believe that adequate income and secure housing are crucial to creating a more equal society where everyone has a stable, dignified life and the chance to thrive. Through the delivery of social welfare advice services, policy influencing & campaigning, and engaging people with lived experience of poverty we seek to secure policy and practice change on key social security and housing issues at a national level.
For those we help, poverty means being unable to pay their rent, bills, and sometimes even food. As poverty and destitution levels in the UK rise, with more and more people struggling to make ends meet during the cost-of-living crisis, our services offer a way to adequate income and secure housing, to provide for a stable and dignified life.
A highly vulnerable client with poor mental health was facing a bailiff eviction following a Section 21 notice.
The client had approached the council to seek emergency accommodation. Until the day before the eviction, the council was wrongly refusing to provide her with any accommodation - leaving her at high risk of street homelessness.
Our caseworker intervened and set out to the council how it had breached its legal duties. This led to the council reversing its position and providing accommodation for the client, sparing her the ordeal of sleeping on the streets.
Over 13.4 million people living in poverty in the UK, and the need for advice providers like Z2K is greater than ever. Your donation will go towards supporting our work in helping Londoners access vital legal support to better understand their rights and speak out about their experiences of poverty and injustice.
