Goal

Queer Kentucky is the only LGBTQ+ newsroom in the state. This Pride Month, we're launching something new: a Community Journalism Program to train queer Kentuckians to tell their own stories.

Over 8 weeks, 8 community writers will learn the fundamentals of journalism, how to find a story, conduct an interview, and write for publication. Every participant receives a $500 stipend. Every graduate has the opportunity to be paid $250 to have their work published on Queer Kentucky.

The total program budget is $15,000. We're raising $7,500 here, and actively applying for grants to cover the rest. Here's exactly where your money goes:

Writer stipends (8 x $500): $4,000
Publication payments (up to 8 x $250): $2,000
Lead facilitator, teaching, planning, and editing support: $7,500
Supplies, software, and materials: $1,500

Queer stories in Kentucky don't tell themselves. Help us build the infrastructure to make sure they get told, by the people who lived them.
