Hi friends & family!

This year marks my first year on the Canopy Atlanta Board and what a year it has been! Canopy Atlanta is committed to advancing community-powered journalism, but in 2024 our staff and fellows outdid themselves! My favorites include: 

•         “Caregiving is ‘the work that makes all other work possible.’ It’s also underpaid, undervalued, and in need of investment.” (published as a part our Cost of Living Project)
•         “What will it take for Tri-Cities to get more grocery stores?” (published as part of our Tri-Cities Community Issue) 
•        “Lost in translation” (published as part of our Norcross Community Issue) 

We pride ourselves on sharing powerful stories about Atlanta, stories that often go untold. And we've witnessed how telling these stories has the power to ignite change, foster connections, and empower Atlantans to advocate for themselves and their neighbors. To continue this important work in 2025, especially the launch of our new Innovation Lab, we need your support. As our creative director Floyd Hall said:

“Canopy Atlanta is a nonprofit. That means we don't charge for access to our journalism, and we don't run ads on our website. We don't profit from the journalism we produce, because we believe access to timely, accurate, and community-powered journalism is a necessity—not a luxury. But this also means we rely on supporters like you to make our mission possible: to pay our journalism fellows, train citizens on how to cover local government meetings, and fund the vital journalism that serves under-reported communities all across Atlanta.”
