Fueling Excellence: The Richardson Area Wide Robotics Food Fund

Behind every successful robot is a team of students fueled by more than just curiosity—they are fueled by consistent, nutritious meals. Our program operates late into the evenings and throughout the weekends, providing a safe, productive environment where students can innovate. To maintain this, we provide dinner two nights per week and lunch every Saturday for our 28 dedicated team members and their adult mentors. Your support of our Food Fund ensures that no student has to choose between a hot meal and their passion for STEM.

A Growing Challenge in Our Community

While a portion of our student fees is traditionally set aside for meals, we are facing an unprecedented economic landscape. The Richardson Independent School District service area is seeing a significant rise in food insecurity.

• Rising Costs: General food prices have continued to climb, placing a heavy burden on our program's budget and, more importantly, on the families we serve.

• Increased Local Need: According to The Network of Community Ministries, the demand for basic needs assistance in the Richardson area is at an all-time high. Last year alone, they served over 29,000 unique individuals, and we anticipate an even greater need in 2026 as families navigate persistent inflation.

• Inclusive Nutrition: Our team is as diverse as our community. We are committed to ensuring every student can eat safely and comfortably by accommodating religious dietary laws (such as Halal or Kosher) and medically necessary restrictions (including severe nut allergies, gluten intolerance, and dairy sensitivities). Meeting these specific needs often requires specialized sourcing, which adds to our overall food costs.

• Reducing Family Burdens: For many of our families, the cost of providing extra meals for long workshop hours is a significant strain. Our goal is to completely remove this financial barrier so that every student can focus on engineering, not hunger.

Your contribution to the Food Fund goes directly toward purchasing fresh, inclusive, and healthy meals for our students. By centralizing our meal program, we can buy in bulk and ensure that every student is fed, regardless of their financial situation or dietary requirements.

• $150 provides a full dinner for the entire team for one night.

• $300 covers a full week of dinners and Saturday lunch.

• $1,200 secures a full month of nutrition for the entire program.
