Goal
Pittsburgh Girls Empowering Ugandan Girls Through Clean Water Access
FroGang is a community that aims to unify Black girls over one of the things we innately have in common regardless of our age, or what neighborhood we live in our hair.
Nine of the dedicated FroGang girls are on a mission to empower girls in Uganda. In 2025, they will travel to a rural village in Nakasongola, Uganda, to build a water, sanitation, and hygiene project at a school.
To prepare for this challenging yet impactful experience coordinated by our partners, UrbanKind Institute and Drink Local. Drink Tap, FroGang is working with hydrology students at Penn State University and engineers at the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to learn how water from rain becomes groundwater, and how even in areas where water is nearby, challenges exist to get clean water for drinking and bathing.
As the FroGang girls learn about Ugandan culture, they have learned that access to clean water provides more than just lifegiving water; it also provides a key to education. Millions of girls globally miss school due to a lack of clean water and hygiene facilities. By eliminating hours spent collecting water, the FroGang will empower more girls to stay in school and boost their future potential. Studies show a girl who stays in school for one year longer increases her lifetime earnings by 15 to25%.i FroGang wants to help Ugandan girls unlock their full potential, but they need your help to do so!
Amplifying Impact
The FroGang girls' mission extends far beyond the water project Here in Pittsburgh, they are learning about Ugandan conservation efforts by partnering with the Pittsburgh Zoo to learn about rhino conservation and the International Conversation Center to understand elephant conservation and protection efforts. And in Uganda, they will deliver hygiene supplies and staple food items to an HIV/AIDS orphanage partnered with DLDT. Your contribution, big or small, brings them closer to their goal!

While UrbanKind Institute is working to raise funds to cover expenses for the girls and their chaperones to travel to Uganda, FroGang still needs to raise $30,000+ to fund the projects that they’ve identified as their priorities, including:
A borehole (a deep well) that would bring clean water to a rural village and school for life, and water filters for the school.
Sanitation, hygiene facilities, and fruit trees for the school.
Purchase and deliver staple food and hygiene supplies to an HIV/AIDS orphanage with DLDT.
