Goal
The Board of Directors of the Green Urban Lunch Box is reaching out to invite you to join us as part of SLC’s vibrant community of local food enthusiasts, food activists, bakers, chefs, and health care professionals. At this time, we are a board of eight who bring a variety of expertise and experience to the Green Urban Lunch Box. Today, we'd like to invite you, our friends, family members, colleagues and other great folks in our networks to learn more about and invest in our FruitShare program.
FruitShare was launched in 2013 to harvest fruit growing in the backyards of Salt Lake City neighborhoods, divert the fruit from our landfills, and feed folks within our community. Together with fruit tree owners and volunteers, The Green Urban Lunch Box has gathered and redistributed 370,000 pounds of fruit in nine years. That’s apples, apricots, plums, peaches, cherries, pears, and grapes that would otherwise go to waste. Our program reduces food waste and reduces food insecurity in Salt Lake County. To learn more, check out our website here.
Reaching our goal to harvest fruit and redistribute it locally requires the help of people like you. In addition to the volunteers who donate their time to participate in the harvesting process, we need funding to pay our staff livable wages and to maintain our daily operations. For example, we need gas to fuel the vans, electricity for refrigeration, and we need to replenish our equipment and supplies.
Each year, generous and supportive community members donate to our organization to supplement our funding from community grants. This year, our goal is to raise $2,000 by the end of the year in our Friends of the Board Giving Campaign. That’s where people like you come in! Please donate today to show your support for the things that we all love and care about!
A $50 donation today will help cover our fuel costs and provide enough gas to transport staff, equipment, and fruit for 3 harvest events.
A $100 donation today will help support our electricity bill to refrigerate the fruit after harvest and before distribution.
A $250 donation today will cover the cost of one fruit tree harvest event in Salt Lake County.
Thanks for all you do for us, friends! We wouldn't be here without you and we sincerely appreciate your investment in the organization that we serve!
