Fred Burroughs Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship fund will support merit based scholarships for a college qualified outstanding male and female athlete graduating from Victory Baptist Academy in Daniels, WV. The endowment was established in memory of Fred Burroughs who died in the tragic explosion at a convenience store in Ghent, WV, on Jan. 30, 2007. His wife Hazel, his son Christopher and his daughter Lindsay started the fund. Fred was very pleased that Lindsay had taken an interest in basketball, one of his favorite sports, and even more excited when Victory Baptist Academy started a girl’s basketball program. He felt Victory was an excellent school, and he wanted to see Lindsay graduate from there. Hence the family felt it fitting to establish a scholarship that would help scholar athletes of each Victory senior class as they sought to continue their education.
