Fred Burroughs Memorial Fireman Fund

Fred Burroughs lost his life in the line of duty as a Ghent Volunteer Fireman when responding to a call at a convenience store in Ghent, WV, in Jan., 2007. A propane explosion killed Fred; three additional men lost their lives and five others were seriously injured. Fred’s family established this fund in his memory; it will generate income for training courses and safety equipment for firefighting purposes of the Ghent volunteer Fire Department. Fred served 33 years as a volunteer with the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department, holding positions of EMT, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief. At the time of his death, Fred was a Captain of the Department and served as a member of the Board of Directors. The growth and well being of his department were always in the forefront of his mind.
