Lugacraft Uganda Secondary School Sponsorship

At It Takes A Village, we believe that education is a Universal Right. In much of the developed world, it is a guaranteed civil liberty to all citizens.

Women like Namufumba (25) often work from sun-up to sun-down to provide for their families, so that their children have better opportunitiesHowever, in some areas of the world, even those with universal primary education, parents living on less than $1 per day in income are often forced to make impossible decisions. While attempting to balance the health and nutrition of their families, they scrape together whatever is left to pay for uniforms and school supplies, so that their children might realize a better future. Quite often there is not enough to go around, and many children are forced to drop out before receiving this basic opportunity. This cycle continues into the next generation, and the poverty trap continues.

We don't think that's ok - and we're enlisting your help.

We're proud to once again partner with Lugacraft Uganda, a Ugandan led community-based organization with over 10 years experience teaching life changing skills and forming women-led community groups, to ensure that no child goes without his or her education.

Agnes (37) works incredibly hard so that she can afford school fees and necessary medical care for her 8 childrenFor $20 per month, you'll be able cover secondary school expenses for a youth who deserves an education. Hard-working mothers like Namufumba and Agnes will have one less checklist item to worry about while raising their families.

Why is secondary school more than twice the cost of primary school?

Secondary school serves as the bridge between the basic lessons of primary school, and the far more advanced University coursework. Students are expected to learn far more which is more applicable to their lives in the workforce (think high school vs elementary), and spend longer days at school. Furthermore, the teachers are more educated and thus command higher salaries.

Over the course of your sponsorship, you'll have the chance to communicate in writing with your student(s) and his or her family, sending notes of encouragement and learning about each others lives. It's our goal to bridge the gap between their culture and ours (which aren't so different, but are each beautiful in their own way), making the world a more strongly connected place.

Together, we can show that all anyone needs to show what they can do, is an appropriate opportunity.
