Goal
Floating saves lives... so can you.
Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death here in Aotearoa New Zealand and it is preventable. DPA is committed to preventing drowning through research-backed education.
Join the Float first movement and help us raise money to prevent drowning.
What's my challenge? I'm going to overhaul my sedentary lifestyle by walking at least 30km a week for the next 9 weeks!
I'm walking 270km to honour the 18 lives lost to drowning each year in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
What's the significance of 270km? It's 15km for each person who drowns annually in Auckland.
Each week, I'm going to walk near various water environments in our region - from beaches to rivers to our backyard. I'll be highlighting what makes each of these spots special and meaningful, while sharing evidence-based water safety tips proven to save lives. These walks are much more than clocking up my steps. I also want to connect our community to the waters we love, while respecting the power of wai.
Donations towards the Float first Fundraiser will help DPA promote water safety and deliver drowning prevention education initiatives so that everyone can enjoy the water and come home safely.
We are a charity, and our drowning prevention education offerings can only exist with generous donations. Thank you for your support.
