Fairfield Community Garden Project

2025 Friends of the Garden Fundraising Campaign

A Growing Partnership for a Sustainable Future!

The Fairfield Community Garden is the result of a collaboration between the Sustainable Living Coalition and the City of Fairfield to create the city’s first community garden.

Launched in 2022, it is now located at the west end of O B Nelson Park. The garden spans a 100’ x 100’ fenced area and features 40 raised plots, a

tool shed, a native perimeter garden, metal trellises, and a communal tool library. Thanks to the generous contributions of local businesses and community leaders, over $20,000 was raised for the infrastructure.

This spring, we need to raise $2,000 to enhance and expand the garden.

Your donation will directly fund:

~ Scholarships: 10 free memberships to low- and moderate-income families

~ Feeding Fairfield Plot: Fresh produce will be grown and donated to our local food banks

~ Sustainable Growth: Soil amendments to ensure healthy crops and abundant harvests

~ Educational Demonstrations: Partnerships with youth groups to teach the science of gardening

~ Infrastructure Improvements: A welcome sign, new tools, solar lighting, and plants for the pollinator gardens

Inaugural Spring 2024 Highlights:

~ All 36 plots were adopted, with over $1,000 raised for scholarships

~ Volunteer support from RSVP and Green Iowa Americorps

~ Surplus produce donated to local food banks

~ Two community service awards for the garden leadership team
