Free speech isn’t dying because someone has banned speech and censored us. It’s dying because the cost of expressing ourselves truthfully keeps rising. This evening is dedicated to the great Canadians who insist on speaking the truth no matter the cost.
On November 18th we will host three people who refuse to be silenced.
Drew Sylver is suing Concordia’s student association for failing to protect Jewish students from harassment.
Mia Hughes launched REPATH because clinicians are afraid to question a treatment model that is harming children and adults.
Liam DeBoer examines how societies lose themselves when the social pressure, propaganda and an oppressive spirit of the times make keeping quiet ang going along easier than speaking the truth.
Kate Marland, lawyer, and director of Free-Speech Union Canada will moderate.
This is not a debate about whether any of them is right. It’s a conversation about what it takes to speak when the room — the campus, the institution, the culture — has decided certain speech is off-limits. Authoritarians always start by calling dissent dangerous and the only reliable way to find out who the authoritarians are is to keep talking.
Seats are limited. Support the event through the Ottawa Centre Conservative Association and be in the room for this important conversation.
Event location will be announced to ticket holders on November 17th.
