Black History Music Ride
Sunday, October 18, 2026 | 12:00 PM
Starts at Kenny Dorham's Backyard (East 11th St) | Ends at the Eastside Kings Festival (12th & Chicon)
Join Black History Bike Ride for a journey to the roots of the Black music legends who helped shape Austin into the Live Music Capital of the World. This roughly 7-mile social ride winds through East Austin, visiting a few historic locations, the many homes of L.C. Anderson High School, and legendary venues like the Victory Grill. Along the way, we'll share the stories of Kenny Dorham, Gil Askey, Ernie Mae Miller, Dr. Hepcat, and more.
We'll wrap up before the 3 PM start of the Eastside Kings Festival, so stick around and keep the music going. Festival tickets sold separately.
The ride is free and all are welcome. Bring a bike, a helmet, and water. Your donation helps us keep these rides free and the stories rolling.
This project is supported in part by a Heritage Preservation Grant of Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment.
*Please note: All free bike rental and pedicab requests must be placed at least 48 hours before the ride. We will do our best to accommodate last minute requests if we can.
