House of Harm Reduction:

Our Work Is a Love Story

For 30 years, NHRC has been honored to work within a harm reduction movement built on love, resistance, grief, joy, rage, solidarity, and showing up for one another, and we want to celebrate this milestone with you, our beloved community!

On Friday, November 6, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., NHRC is taking over Brooklyn's House of Yes for our East Coast 30th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser to honor the people who helped build our organization and center the communities that sustain and shape our work.

We hope you'll join us for a night of music, dancing, food, drinks, performances, connection, and a few surprises — House of Yes meets House of Harm Reduction!

Honoring our community

We are deeply honored to recognize:

Stephanie Comer, Joyce Rivera, Edith Springer, and Scott Stokes

with our East Coast Founders Award

Allan Clear, Terrell Jones, and Joy Rucker

with our Lifetime Achievement Award

and Reverend Erica Poellot as the inaugural recipient

of our Innovation in Healing Award.

These extraordinary leaders have helped define harm reduction as we know it: building community, challenging stigma and oppressive systems, creating new possibilities for care and healing, and fighting for the dignity and lives of people who use drugs.

November 6 is our chance to give them their flowers.

Important event access and guest information

We want everyone to have the information they need to make the best choices for themselves and to enjoy the House of Harm Reduction as fully and comfortably as possible.

  • Accessibility: House of Yes is a single-level, wheelchair-accessible venue, with the exception of the upper portions of the stage. Reserved seating can be arranged for guests with physical disabilities. If you have an access need or would like to request an accommodation, please contact development@harmreduction.org in advance of the event. We will do our best to accommodate individual requests in partnership with the venue, but we cannot guarantee every accommodation will be available.

  • Lighting and sound: House of Yes is a nightlife and performance venue. The event environment may include strobe and flashing lights, low lighting, loud and amplified music and sound, theatrical lighting and effects, and periods of high sensory stimulation. We’re sharing these details in advance so guests can plan for their own access and sensory needs.

  • Health and wellness: While masks will not be required by NHRC or House of Yes, complimentary masks will be available throughout the event. We ask everyone to help us care for one another by staying home if you are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of a contagious illness. House of Yes also has a small, covered outdoor space available for guests seeking fresh air; please note smoking is permitted in this area.

  • Refund policy: As a community rooted in harm reduction, we encourage everyone to make the choices that best support their own health and the health of those around them. If you become ill or otherwise cannot attend, let us know at least 48 hours before the event, and we’ll refund your ticket.

  • Take care of yourself and each other: Our priority is keeping our community as safe, informed, supported, and cared for as possible. NHRC staff, board members, and volunteers will be wearing light-up lanyards in case you need support, information, harm reduction supplies, naloxone, or simply someone to check in with.

  • Food and allergies: Appetizers and food stations will be available throughout the evening, and we will make every reasonable effort to offer options for a range of dietary needs. Please share dietary needs during registration so we can plan accordingly. Please note food will be prepared and/or served in shared environments, and we cannot guarantee any food will be completely free from allergens or cross-contact. Guests with severe or life-threatening food allergies should use their own judgment regarding food consumption at the event.

  • Cash bar and alcohol: A cash bar will be open throughout the evening, and the first 50 guests to purchase tickets will receive a drink from us. A full bar will be available, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase. Guests must be 21 or older to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages.

  • Smoking policy: House of Yes is a nonsmoking facility. A small, covered outdoor courtyard and bar area is available within the venue where smoking is permitted.

  • Questions or accommodation requests? Please contact development@harmreduction.org. We encourage you to reach out in advance so we have as much time as possible to explore available options with you.
