Les Salons: The Foucault Centennial (1926–2026) The Foucault Laboratory

LES SALONS: Quarterly Public Conversations on Literature, Philosophy & the Arts
Starting this Fall, L'École Buissonnière invites you to a quarterly event celebrating landmark moments in French intellectual and artistic history.

Inspired by the tradition of the French literary salons, these evenings bring together writers, philosophers, artists, scholars, and curious minds for conversations that cross disciplines and generations.
Rather than formal lectures, each Salon invites thoughtful dialogue where scholarship, literature, and the arts become part of Portland's public cultural life.

Fall 2026 | October 29th: The Foucault Centennial (1926–2026)
The Foucault Laboratory: Power, Knowledge, and Freedom
Michel Foucault transformed the way we think about madness, institutions, language, and power. One hundred years after his birth, this Salon explores why his questions remain urgent today and what they can teach us about freedom, education, archives, and the stories societies choose to preserve or silence.
Inspired by the spirit of l'école buissonnière, we'll ask how curiosity, dissent, and unconventional ways of learning continue to shape public life.
What is knowledge?
