Mental health challenges can affect every aspect of a student's ability to engage in healthcare, education, relationships, and daily life. While professionals play an important role in supporting students, many young people have never been taught practical skills for communicating about their mental health, seeking appropriate support, or navigating available resources.
Your Mental Health Toolbox™ equips professionals with practical coaching strategies that help students build confidence, strengthen communication, and develop lifelong skills for navigating mental health resources and support systems.
Participants will explore practical, non-clinical tools that encourage self-awareness, help students identify trusted sources of support, communicate concerns effectively, and recognize when additional assistance may be needed. The session emphasizes empowering students to become active participants in their own healthcare while remaining within appropriate professional roles and ethical boundaries.
Rather than focusing on diagnosis or treatment, this session provides transferable healthcare navigation and communication strategies that professionals can immediately incorporate into everyday interactions with students.
Participants will leave with practical tools they can immediately use to help students strengthen self-advocacy, improve communication, navigate mental health resources with greater confidence, and build lifelong healthcare navigation skills.
Healthcare professionals help students navigate increasingly complex healthcare systems every day—yet few receive formal education in practical healthcare navigation or coaching strategies that prepare students to navigate healthcare with confidence throughout their lives.
Developed by The Healthcare Navigation Project™ (THNP), this interactive interprofessional continuing education series equips professionals with practical healthcare navigation skills and transferable coaching strategies they can immediately apply within existing workflows.
Grounded in the CDC Healthy People 2030 definition of health literacy and the World Health Organization's Life Skills Framework, each 90-minute session uses active learning, discussion, case examples, and practical tools to strengthen healthcare navigation literacy across disciplines.
Unlike programs that focus on disease-specific education or clinical treatment, this series focuses on practical healthcare navigation skills that professionals can use to help students access healthcare services, navigate healthcare systems, communicate more effectively, and develop lifelong self-advocacy skills.
This activity is designed for professionals including: Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, behavioral health professionals, social workers, psychologists, pharmacists, care coordinators, dentists, opthamologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, case managers, community health workers, health educators, administrators, and other allied healthcare professionals.
