Big Day Out - Athenry Playground Fundraiser 2026
Support Athenry Community Playground Group and raise necessary funds to repair the wheelchair roundabout, replace the deteriorating zip-line platform, and create a new teen space!

The BIG DAY OUT is back! Join us on 8th August from 12:00-4:00 p.m. This event will fill Athenry Town Park and Playground with live music, food trucks, makers mart, and plenty of activities for you and your kids to enjoy!
Dance workshops, yoga, drumming workshops, live readings, crafts, circuses and more--we've got everything from calm to creative and something for everyone!
During the BIG DAY OUT, you will have FREE ACCESS to FOOD TRUCKS, a local MAKERS MART, RAFFLE and LIVE MUSIC in Athenry Park.

BIG DAY OUT is supported by Athenry Community Council, C+F Tooling, and funded in part by grants from Galway County Council and Creative Ireland. All funds raised for this event go toward purchasing and repairing equipment for Athenry Playground.
After last year's Big Day Out fundraiser, Athenry Community Playground volunteers spent Autumn and Winter applying for major funding grants. In December 2025, the playground secured €122,992 from the LEADER grant to replace the current play structures. Construction for this project is scheduled to begin in July. We hope the Big Day Out can be a celebration of these efforts, and help raise necessary funds to create a teen space within Athenry Park, as well as repair the wheelchair roundabout and replace the deteriorating zip-line platform.
Athenry Community Playground Group is a volunteer-run group focused on keeping the only playground in Athenry open, safe, and fun!
