Step into the beauty of Northern Michigan and experience the wild side of the Jordan River Valley at the Walk the Wild 5K, a community walk celebrating the landscapes we work every day to protect.
Hosted by the Friends of the Jordan River Watershed, this family-friendly 5K winds through the forests and freshwater estuary that make the Jordan River Valley one of Michigan’s most treasured ecosystems. Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to walk or simply enjoy the Don & Eileen Klein Nature Trail while supporting conservation, education, and stewardship of this remarkable watershed.
The Jordan River watershed is a place where clean water, wildlife habitat, and outdoor recreation come together. Our mission is to protect and preserve this extraordinary landscape so future generations can experience the same clear rivers, quiet forests, and wild beauty that define Northern Michigan. Events like Walk the Wild 5K help fund restoration projects, trail improvements, environmental education, and community outreach that keep the watershed healthy and accessible.
Proceeds from the event help support the John Richter Scholarship, awarded to college-bound graduates who demonstrate a passion for environmental stewardship and conservation. The scholarship honors John Richter’s legacy of dedication to protecting natural resources and encourages the next generation of environmental leaders to continue that work.
Whether you are a seasoned hiker, a casual walker, or simply someone who loves the Jordan River Valley, Walk the Wild 5K is a chance to come together as a community, celebrate the outdoors, and support the protection of one of Michigan’s most beautiful natural places.
