Understanding the Global and National Frameworks for Gender Equality

This workshop introduces participants to a foundational gender equality policy: the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

Topics include:

  • What is CEDAW? Overview of the international treaty, how it works globally, and the U.S.’s role.
  • Why Hasn’t CEDAW Been Fully Adopted? Political barriers and public misconceptions.
  • Local Action, Global Impact: How advocacy at the local level supports CEDAW goals.
  • Case Studies: Examples of communities using CEDAW frameworks to improve local policy.
  • Youth in Action: Ways young people can get involved in pushing for gender equality.
By the end of this session, participants will understand how these legal frameworks shape gender equity efforts—and how they can be powerful tools for change.
