Turning Passion into Policy: Advocacy for Social Change
This workshop equips WomenNC Scholars with the skills and mindset needed to become effective advocates. Participants will learn how to move beyond direct service into systems-level change through strategic, values-driven advocacy work.

Topics Include

  • Defining advocacy and distinguishing it from direct service and lobbying
  • Exploring how advocacy influences shifts in social norms and promotes policy change
  • Understanding the core activities of advocacy, from awareness to action
  • Learning the hierarchy of advocacy entry points and how to choose your approach
  • Setting strategic SMART goals to guide advocacy efforts
  • Identifying and analyzing stakeholders and power dynamics
  • Building coalitions and partnerships for collective impact
  • Developing your personal voice as an effective advocate
     
By the end of this session, Scholars will understand their role as advocates and be equipped to champion gender equity through well-informed, collaborative strategies.
