The stakes are high and keep getting higher as ICE expands, the National Guard is deployed in cities, and new policies harming our communities are announced everyday. How do we make effective interventions and counter these big, powerful forces?
This four-part series will provide a crash course in tactics and strategies for meaningful collective action and connect you with others wanting to do the same.
We'll meet for four Wednesdays in October, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peace House in Ashland.
Each session will be organized in part around a specific kind of target and a set of tactics:
Session 1 (October 8): Pillars and People
How do we aid people in defecting from institutions supporting an authoritarian regime? Power and relationship mapping, counter-recruitment actions, and more.
Session 2 (October 15): Money and Noncooperation
How do we keep money out of the hands of those who would harm us? We'll look at popular education tools about the cost of militarism, and individual and group noncooperation tactics to disrupt the war economy.
Session 3 (October 22): Information and Organizing
Learn about how information-sharing between police, corporations, and federal agencies aids in the criminalization of everyday people, and get up to speed on communication tools you can use to limit exposure as well as organizing campaigns to reduce surveillance locally and nationally.
Session 4 (October 29): Land, Space, and Direct Action
Controlling space—whether it's a government building for staging operations or public land for mining uranium—is necessary for military action. How do we support land defenders and resist the building of new spaces for militarized policing?
You'll walk away from each session with both small action steps you can take as an individual and the chance to participate in bigger projects and campaigns, along with tools to help you stay grounded.
Participation in all four sessions is recommended but not required. $25 recommended donation per session; no one turned away from lack of funds. Donate in advance here on DonorBox or at the door. Help cover the cost for another participant by making a donation to Peace House with "resisting militarism" in the notes.
These trainings are led by Peace House staffer Meg Wade (they/them). Meg has a background in pro-democracy organizing and 20+ years of work with community groups as a facilitator and trainer. They also bring personal experience in nonviolent direct action, noncooperation, and creative campaign design.
