2025 Event Day Details - What to Expect?
We are excited to gather as a community to meet each other, honor the Apraxia Stars, and have some fun.
Who is an Apraxia Star? An Apraxia Star is an individual with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS).
What is childhood apraxia of speech (CAS)? Childhood apraxia of speech is a neurological motor speech disorder that makes it hard for children to speak. Children with this diagnosis generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say. However, they have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex movements that underlie speech. There are often co-occurring challenges that can last into adulthood in the areas of residual speech errors, language, reading/literacy, academics, and social skills. There is no cure, but with intensive and appropriate speech therapy, most children learn to produce intelligible speech and can overcome many of their challenges.
How does the Community Walk Event make an impact? The Community Walk Event raises awareness about childhood apraxia of speech. Each time we share information about this event or CAS, we are creating a future where more individuals can find the care they need because apraxia is understood, not unknown. Also, this event helps raise crucial funds necessary to develop, grow, and sustain the programs, resources, and research support offered by Apraxia Kids.
