Join us for a special evening of conversation in conjunction with our current exhibition on George Dureau, the legendary New Orleans photographer known for his powerful, intimate portraits. Biographer Howard Smith will be joined by Becket Logan for an engaging discussion about Dureau’s unique photographic style, his approach to working with models, and the personal philosophies that informed his life and art.
The conversation will offer insight into Dureau’s methods of connecting with the people he photographed—many drawn from the fringes of society—and how he captured their vulnerability, dignity, and strength. Smith and Logan will also explore Dureau’s views on love, sexuality, and the vibrant cultural landscape of New Orleans that so deeply influenced his work. They’ll reflect on his artistic legacy, as well as the circle of collaborators and friends who helped shape his world, including fellow artists, writers, and performers.
