Save the date on 1/4/25 for the first annual Lansing Christmas Tree Fling. Register as a competitor or just come out to watch the Fir Fly!
There will be three competition groups for individuals divided by age...14-18...18-60....60 and up - that's me. Registration obviously must have a spot for providing your age. Address and phone number as well.
There will be a team competition. Each team will consist of three members. Each member will Fling once in each competition. Their scores will be added up for each competiton. The team with the highest combined total score from all three events will be the team winner.
The three events will be:
1. Caber toss. Tree has to rotate at least once. After the toss the distance will be measured. The tree must land with its top or trunk pointing up and down the throwning lane to be measured. Sideways landing will result in a zero. ( not too strict on this)
2. Tree rope throw. We will have secured a piece of rope to the trees to be thrown. This way all will be identical. The contestans will spin around and hopefully let the tree and the rope fly down the thowing lane. The distance will be measured where the tree ends up in any position.
3. Fling for accuracy The thrower will fling the tree down the throwing lane towards a bulls eye target. It will be similar to a bow and arrow target: 10 for a bullseye, 9 next ring out, 8 next ring out etc. If it is in between the rings its .5 - example 9.5 between the bullseye and the number 9 ring.
There will be a wreath tossing area for kids. We will provide hot chocolate and water.
