WHERE WE STARTED, WHERE WE'RE GOING

Since 1974, Dollars & Sense has been a nonprofit, non-hierarchical, collectively-run project to demystify economics for regular people, activists and organizers, workers, and students. We've brought a critical eye to the big economic questions and the reigning theories of the day. We cover issues ignored by the mainstream media and empower people to think about alternatives to capitalism.

With the support of an amazing community and our democratically-managed staff, we've kept true to our founding mission for 50 years. Now is the time for us to get ready for the next 50 years. With your help, we're hoping to raise $50,000 between our two fundraising parties in Los Angeles and Amherst, Mass. as well as our national fundraiser.

That's why we need YOU to buy your ticket to attend our Los Angeles party and fundraiser. And we are hoping that, if you are able, you'll also give what you can to our national fundraiser by clicking here. You can donate online or you can send a check payable to Dollars & Sense to: Dollars & Sense, P.O. Box 209, Portsmouth, NH 03802.

If we're able to raise $50,000 between our two parties and the national fundraiser, 2025 will be a big growth year for us. With renewed financial support from our D&S community, our plans for 2025 and beyond include:

1. Introducing D&S to a new generation of young activists and students. In the 1970s and 1980s, our project was a vital tool for many of us in the D&S community. With renewed effort, we can play that same role for a new generation who are interested in learning about  people-centered economics. More resources means we'll be able to put more time into strengthening D&S's social media presence and reaching out to young activists at conferences and gatherings. It will also help us fund a new "solidarity subscription" program to give young people with limited funds free subscriptions to D&S.

2. Continue the transition to our brand-new website. In 2025, we'll be building out the site and adding new multimedia content.

3. We went out on a limb this year to increase our support for freelance writers, visual artists and photographers, and our staff. As a worker-centered and worker-run project, we know the importance of making sure all workers, including writers and editors, are paid a living wage and benefits. We pay a fair rate for work, but we need help to keep that going.

At 50 years old, Dollars & Sense has a wealth of experience to share with the new movements bubbling up all across the United States. From a revived labor movement to new experiments in worker cooperatives and solidarity economies, the fight back against the Age of Inequality is on. Help us make sure D&S is part of that fight for another 50 years!

In solidarity,

The Los Angeles Host Committee: Bill Barclay, Glenn Berkovitz, Liz Henderson, Marie Kennedy, Mark Maier, Jane Paul, Jim Devine, Zoe Sherman, Abhilasha Srivastava, Peg Strobel, Chris Sturr, Chris Tilly, and the Dollars & Sense collective

P.S. If you can’t make it, or you can but also want to help us out with a donation, we would still greatly appreciate you giving to our national fundraiser. You can do so by clicking here. Or you can donate by check by sending a check payable to Dollars & Sense, and sending to Dollars & Sense, P.O. Box 209, Portsmouth, NH 03802.
