Casulana launches its fifth season with “She Speaks/We Sing,” a concert celebrating poetry and texts by women writers, including Madeleine L’Engel, Sara Teasdale, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Emily Dickinson, and Leonora Speyer among others.
New collaborations with local artists light up the event, including a featured appearance by spoken word artist Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton (Houston Poet Laureate, 2017-2019) reading one of her apt and timely works; the introduction of Dr. Andrea Benabent Follana as collaborative pianist; and a featured solo by noted oboist Alecia Lawyer (founder and Executive Director of ROCO — River Oaks Chamber Orchestra).
Other first-time artistic partners on this program include Donna Dvorak, French horn; Sam Hernandez, alto saxophone; and Staci Waites, cajón.
