Ableton User Group - Sept Meetup

THIS MONTH: Max4Live and Modular Synthesis

We've got two great presentations this month and you know it's gonna be fun!

ABOUT

This is a free monthly community meet-up for all Abletonheads in the greater Pittsburgh area. Here's how our meetups work.

SETUP

First, we say hi and everybody sets up their laptop on one of the big tables. Come at 4:30 or 5pm to plug in and get on the WiFi.

DEMONSTRATION

To start, someone from our community does a demonstration with a tool, technique or creative process for making music. These are short and focused on activities we can do together, it's not like a whole class.

DOWNLOAD

After the demonstrations we get a download to play with, like an Ableton Rack or some samples. We get quick instructions on how to use the download so everybody knows what to do.

PLAYTIME

Then we all spend an hour+  getting creative, making new sounds, sharing ideas, and visiting each other's laptop stations to hear what people are doing.  This interactive jam time is the heart of the meetup.

GROUP LISTEN

Finally at the end we take turns plugging into the sound system to share what we created with the whole group. Everybody gets to hear the crazy stuff other people came up with.

THIS MONTH'S TOPICS

This month we have two presenters, Brian Riordian and Joe Haley.

Brian is going to do a beginner intro with Max4Live, to de-mystify it and get you started making cool sounds.

And Joe will continue teaching synthesis and sound design on his DAWless modular rig, dropping the science on synths (that we can apply to our Ableton Instruments).  

These two are both absolute geniuses in their field, and you're sure to get a lot out of it.

WHAT TO DO

Bring your own laptop/charger, headphones, and 1/4"-1/8" adapter (for headphones) if you can. We will have power plugs and audio cables to connect you into the system.
