Event Description & Agenda: Indigenous Peoples' Day Movie Night Fundraiser & Panel Discussion

Location: The Rotunda

In honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, join us for a special Movie Night Fundraiser at The Rotunda. This impactful evening will feature the screening of Even the Rain, a film that tells the story of colonialism in Bolivia while highlighting the legacy of Cacique Hatuey, the Taíno leader and the first Indigenous resistance fighter against colonial oppression.

In addition to the feature film, the event will showcase short films from the Urban Indian Health Institute, focusing on contemporary Indigenous resilience and data sovereignty. The night will conclude with a panel discussion featuring representatives from the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape and Borikua Taíno Yucayekeno, who will explore themes of cultural preservation, Indigenous sovereignty, and ongoing resistance.

We are proud to highlight the Yucayeke/no Connect App, a Data Sovereignty initiative of the Borikua Taíno Foundation, designed to protect and empower the 21 recognized Yucayekeno of Indigenous Borikén by providing innovative technological tools for data collection and cultural preservation.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will support Indigenous community initiatives through the Borikua Taíno Foundation, ensuring the continued fight for Indigenous rights, cultural preservation, and food sovereignty programs.
