Presidential Succession
Featuring
Please join us for a presentation from GIIS senior fellow John Wohlstetter on increasingly urgent issues surrounding presidential succession, the 25th Amendment, and new presidential and senior official protection measures.
This discussion is particularly pertinent given current national security concerns and ongoing debates. Recent conversations about President Biden's frailty have underscored the necessity of a clear and efficient succession plan.
Drawing on extensive research, our speaker will offer novel suggestions for resolving critical issues: recalibrating the orders of cabinet line of succession, rebalancing decisions on senior official security to match our tripartite co-equal branches; and removing the Secret Service from the elephantine DHS bureaucracy, creating a standalone Secret Service Bureau, and confining the new agency to security and protection responsibilities.
Join us for an enlightening conversation as we examine the intricacies of presidential succession, its relevance in today's landscape, and potential avenues for reform.
Following the discussion, there will be an opportunity for an off-the-record Q&A session, allowing you to directly engage with John Wohlstetter and gain further insights into the topics discussed.
