32nd Annual Empty Bowl Soup Supper

The Empty Bowl is our largest and most mission focused fundraiser of the year.  Symbolizing the struggle of food insecurity, it serves as a reminder of the many families we serve who have literal empty bowls due to rising housing costs.  Across the state of Virginia, rental costs have increased 24% in the last 10 years, while income rates have remained stagnant.  With many families not earning livable wages, they find themselves housing cost burdened (spending more than 30% of their monthly income on housing costs) and unable to cover basic expenses such as utility costs.  Shenandoah Alliance is able to provide necessary financial assistance and strength based counseling to these households to help them maintain their housing with the help of fundraisers like the Empty Bowl.
