Livestream from Chimphu, Central Tibet

Livestream (Zoom Webinar, Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM PST (UTC/GMT -8)

Jigme Lingpa, once a resident at Chimphu, wrote A Guide to Glorious Samye Chimphu, in which he stated:

"In the snowy land of Tibet,…the glorious Samye Chimphu Valley is known as the hermitage of enlightened speech."

And the Pema Kathang has described the sacred geomancy:

"The valley of Chimphu is like a blossoming lotus.

Outwardly, it is shaped like open petals;

Inwardly, it is Vajravarahi's dharmadayo, possessing the three liberations;

Secretly, it is the expanse of the Vajra Queen's bhaga.

In its center is Drakmar Ke'u-tsang, which rests on mountain slopes that rise like a victory banner."

Chimphu (13,180 ft), a thriving meditation hermitage site four miles northeast of Samye Monastery, was established by King Drisong Detsen in the 8th century. It is one of the eight most sacred places in Tibet and is closely associated with the Nyingma tradition.

The first destination will be the nunnery at the base of the mountain. Then, we will walk uphill and uphill to the main caves, such as Jigme Lingpa's Flower Cave, Yeshe Tsogyal's hermitage, and others clustered around the Copper-Colored Mountain Rock, including Guru Rinpoche's. At the summit, we will enter Drakmar Keutsang, where Guru Rinpoche first bestowed the Eight Logos empowerment and revived the King's daughter, giving her the treasure later known as Khandro Nyingtik. On the descent, we will circumambulate the gilded reliquary stupa of Longchenpa.

Many yogins live at Chimphu, and as we encounter them along the trails, we will have the chance to make dana offerings. When purchasing your ticket, you will find the option to send a dana offering.

The livestream will be recorded and available for one month for streaming and download. A Chimphu Library with educational PDFs and images will be accessible a week before the event. For the live stream, you can check your time zone here. Please note that when you buy a ticket, you can invite others to join you in real-time, but you should not share your private Zoom webinar link. You will receive your link on Sept. 8 and again on the day of the event. Thank you!
