El Refugio presents an evening with organizer, author, journalist, and former lawyer, Anjali Enjeti.
Please join us at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, LLP in Midtown for an inspiring evening of action, advocacy, and finding the resolve to keep going.
Come enjoy great food & drink, a silent auction featuring the work of Yehimi Cambrón, and reflections from our special guest, Anjali Enjeti, award-winning author of "Southbound: Essays on Identity, Inheritance, and Social Change," as well as "The Parted Earth," a novel.
In 2018, Anjali wrote a story for The Nation titled, "The Little Yellow Sanctuary in the Shadow of ICE," about El Refugio. After the story ran, El Refugio moved out of the little yellow house and into a large historic home down the street.
Today, El Refugio continues to provide free, overnight hospitality, visitation at SDC, and many other services, while amplifying the voices of the immigrant community to shut down Stewart Detention Center.
Meanwhile, in addition to coming out with two widely praised books in 2021, Anjali became a powerful voice for change, working to end voter suppression, cofounding the Georgia chapter of They See Blue, an organization for South Asian Democrats, and serving on the Georgia AAPI Leadership Council for the Biden-Harris Campaign.
