Los Angeles-based singer Maria Schafer creates a spellbinding concoction of expansive melodies, charming delivery of cheeky lyrics, and alchemical interplay on the stage.
Centered in straight-ahead jazz, her sweetly lithe voice weaves intimate communication and playful improvisation through remarkable chestnut-worthy originals culling influences from swing, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian jazz, and more.
"Schafer's awareness of when to embellish and when to pull on the reins stands out among the current crop of jazz singers all-too-eager to show off their chops at the expense of communicating actual emotion." - Jefferson Public Radio
