We Love Philly, Revcarto and The Revolution School have joined forces to create a City-Wide Ninja Warrior League that puts high school-age youth at the center of a solution for the rising gun violence statistics in the City of Philadelphia. Twenty-three students from the Revolution School are creating, from scratch, a ninja warrior league that teens from grassroots nonprofits can participate in and use as an opportunity to share resources and ideas around their work within Philadelphia.
Currently, Revolution School students are separated into four teams and are creating our league's rules, gameplay, and structure. They have decided to hold their “game days” at a trampoline park and believe this kind of venue has enough space to actualize the project they are creating. Students are also currently making their jerseys, advertising materials, and trophy that will serve the league as we move forward. We are now looking to visit a trampoline park to explore youth ideas and to let them “play” in order to come up with the gameplay and rules needed for our league.
After building the league internally, we aim to invite three more grassroots organizations that serve teenagers into our league. Our goal is to hold twice monthly game days in order for these teams to compete and for their supporters and networks to come together to share stories and resources around the effects of gun violence.
