Action premiered in November of 2022 to 7 sold out performances. The second weekend was canceled due to COVID-19 exposure. In an effort to meet the widespread interest in this story, the team is remounting the production next month.
About The Play
In December of 1972, Percy Green and his dedicated group of activists (Action Committee to Improve Opportunities for Negroes) infiltrated the segregated Veiled Prophet Ball and unveiled the VP King himself. Action is a new play based on extensive research and interviews with Percy Green and other members of the movement that honors and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the unveiling.
The AAC
Action is produced by The Action Art Collaborative, a fiscally sponsored project of MAPS (Midwest Artist Project Services). The Action Art Collaborative is a team of multidisciplinary St. Louis artists producing community engaged theater. We are committed to examining the social and economic landscape of our city, using theater as a means to analyze structural racism and poverty. We strive to build community and hope through lifting up stories of people power, solidarity, and social change. The core team of creative producers includes Kathryn Bentley, Delaney Piggins, Colin McLaughlin, and Joan Suarez.
Take Action
We are offering this play free to the community because we feel this incredible true story belongs to St. Louis. Please consider donating to the Action Art Collaborative to help us honor and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the unveiling. Our funding model depends on grant sponsors and grassroots community support. All donations are tax deductible and will benefit the artists involved in bringing Action to life.
