Friends of One Pencil Day and Night at Antelope Island - Saturday October 1
Please join us for the 3rd annual Friends of One Pencil Event & Fundraiser
WHERE: Antelope Island State Park - White Rock Loop Trail Head
WHEN: October 1, 2022 - 2:30PM; Bike Ride Departs at 3:30 sharp! Be sure to allow extra time, especially if you have a tent to set up.
Please join us at Antelope Island State Park in Syracuse Utah for our annual Friends of One Pencil event (www.OnePencilProject.org) . Explore the island, socialize, and enjoy some great food courtesy of our friends at Taco Taco, while also supporting the important work of One Pencil.
Camping: Once again this year we rented a group campsite that accommodates 80 people, so please stay as long as you like and hang out after the ride and enjoy a beautiful fall night under the stars. (Antelope Island is famous for amazing sunsets and incredible star gazing. In 2017, it was designated a certified “International Dark Sky Park” by the International Dark Sky Association.)
Bike Riding: We will offer two rides. The longer ride is an intermediate level 17 mile loop covering a large area within the backcountry of the park. Total climbing is about 1,800 feet and includes everyone's favorite hill - the 1.3 mile Valley of Death with an average grade of 8%. There are also a couple of technical sections requiring intermediate mountain bike handling skills.
Beginner + Loop: A more moderate ride of about half the distance, with less climbing and less technical skills required. This shorter loop covers 8 miles, 750 vertical feet of climbing and no Valley of Death :)
Fundraiser: While there's no required donation or registration fee, we do ask participants to consider supporting our important mission at One Pencil. In the last year, we've provided school supplies to thousands of children and expanded our university scholarship program - all of this while developing leading scientific research in the fields of anthropology, economics and psychology. We could not sustain this programming without the support of our donors.
Let us know if you have any questions or comments. We have a maximum attendance cap of 80, so please register early and also let us know if you plan to bike and/or camp. Any questions, please reach out to Jason 860.235.6696 or Helen 575.640.1989 or email [email protected]
Note: Antelope Island charges $15 per car for admission to the Park.
