Why I support the ESLC: 

As an immigrant, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to navigate a new life in the U.S.—learning a new language, adapting to unfamiliar customs, and finding your place in a new community. Back when I first arrived, I would have loved to have a resource like the ESLC. It can feel isolating to face those challenges on your own.

Looking back, I also realize that in my efforts to belong, I unintentionally set aside parts of my own heritage and culture. The ESLC provides a different path—one where immigrants and refugees can learn English and embrace U.S. culture while celebrating and honoring their own traditions.

This work not only empowers individuals and families but also enriches the diverse community we share in Salt Lake and Utah counties. I support the ESLC because they embody the belief that everyone deserves to belong while staying true to who they are.

As the year draws to a close, we invite you to make a lasting impact by supporting the English Skills Learning Center (ESLC) in our efforts to empower adult learners and their families through language, literacy, and community connection. Every gift, no matter the size, helps provide accessible, high-quality education and opens doors for individuals building new lives here in Utah.

Why Your Gift Matters

At ESLC, we believe that language is not just a tool—it’s a pathway to opportunity, inclusion, and self-sufficiency. Over the past year, we have reached over 665 learners, provided classes in dozens of schools and community sites, and trained new teachers to meet the growing demand for our programs. Our dedicated learners achieve remarkable gains in language and literacy, paving the way for their success in the workplace, community involvement, and family life. This year, we anticipate to far surpass these numbers. We currently have just over 500 active students and it's only November. 

We can't do it alone. We need your support to ensure that we can continue to serve everyone on our waitlist, increase program access, and expand our community initiatives that foster growth and resilience.
