Goal

You know me, you know I'm crazy about the work I do and I'm proud of the critical service this organization provides to the community. The English Skills Learning center aims to build a community where all voices are celebrated by providing free English and Citizenship classes to refugees, immigrants, and other adult English learners in Salt Lake County, as well as workshops, book clubs, and training for receiving community members.

In my position as Adult Emergent Readers Program Coordinator, I manage classes and create curricula for people who are learning to read and write for the first time in any language, alongside learning English. This area of adult education is relatively niche, under-researched, and under-funded, so a lot of my time is spent in testing and developing materials that are accessible for literacy learners, appropriate for adults, and adapted to the specific life and resettlement needs of refugees and immigrants. Perhaps the best part of my job is connecting with the awesome volunteers and learners in the classroom. It's both a privilege and a super great time to learn learn and work alongside some of the very best of people!

Join us in building a community where all voices are celebrated! Your donations will help provide materials, trainings, and classes for adult language learners and volunteers in Salt Lake County.
