Goal

I have been on the Board of ESLC for almost 5 years.  The purpose and results of the ESLC drew me to serve as a Board members for the organization. In 2021, ESLC provides 2,900 hours of instruction and 31 students earned citizenship and 23 gained or improved their employment. The ESLC believes in two-way mutual integration, which places emphasis on the efforts of the incoming community (i.e., adult language learners) and the receiving community throughout the integration process. To support the notion of two-way mutual integration, the ESLC focuses on providing educational opportunities for both the receiving community and English language learners. The receiving community can learn with us by attending workshops, becoming a volunteer, or even participating in a community book club. For English language learners, the ESLC specializes in teaching English language and civics for adults with limited and interrupted formal education through specialized content-based programs. We create a safe-space for everyone to learn and grow together.

For 34 years, the ESLC has been providing free literacy and civics tutoring and small group classes across Salt Lake County. With our focus on two-way mutual integration, our classes are about much more than learning English. We aim to break language and cultural barriers in order to create a community where ALL voices are celebrated. September is also Adult Education and Family Literacy Month, so we are inviting YOU to join us in offering free and accessible adult education classes. Help integrate and strengthen communities by donating today!

P.S. Our team is having a friendly competition (with incentives) to see who can raise the most money between September 1st-September 30th. If you have loved working with or learning from one of our team members, reach out to them to donate directly on their campaign page!
