EPISODES: Creating new work during the coronavirus crisis
With just about a week to go until our latest opera was scheduled to open, we took the difficult decision to postpone our fourth season: Pandora's Box.
You will no doubt have read about the impact that this situation is having on an industry like ours that is precarious at the best of times, and on the artists that work in it, who are mostly freelancers with virtually no safety net. This wave of cancellations worries us greatly, and we would like to do our part to keep creating and provide work to some very talented young artists.
Our new project, EPISODES, brings together several young composers and librettists to create a series of short songs ranging from 30 seconds to three minutes each, featuring promising young opera singers and musicians. The episodes will revolve around the current crisis, some with positive messages, for example featuring verbatim quotes from front-line workers, and some delving into situational comedy, highlighting some of the human qualities that the situation brings up in a light-hearted manner. Some episodes will be stand-alone, and some will follow a story over a series of episodes. Can you help us make it happen?
Donate an amount of your choice or, if you want to get closer to our project co-sponsor an episode of our choice from £200, and get a signed copy of the score, and a chance to meet and chance with the team, besides our sincerest thanks and theirs!
We are very grateful to you for your support, wish you and your loved ones all the best, and look forward to seeing you when we perform it in front of a live audience!
