Immeasurably more. God has kept these two words, found in scripture, at the forefront of the Encounter movement. A little over 5 years ago, God gave some local student pastors around Arab a shared vision to see a movement take place in the lives of teenagers. This movement would not be based on a certain denomination or church name but based instead on the name of Jesus.
Over the past 5 years, we have seen over 1700 participants in annual events where local churches lay aside small differences to witness God do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” in the lives of teenagers. From worshipping together, studying God’s word, and participating in several community service projects, these students are learning that they are made for a great purpose, and they are understanding the body of Christ extends beyond their church congregation. And now, as a result, we see former students once impacted through Encounter now returning to lead current students. We are seeing participation and leadership come full circle!
Encounter began as a weekend event in which students stay in volunteer homes and participate in worship services, small groups, and mission projects together. Encounter Nights have now been incorporated on one Wednesday night per semester to extend the community-wide worship opportunities for our students through the year. We have seen this movement continue to grow in number and enthusiasm each year. As we grow, the resources necessary to sustain this movement also increase.
